I had the chance last week to see this show on Good Friday in the afternoon. Although it was very crowded the show is fantastic and well worth seeing. It shows Brandt’s work in sections by the decades as well as sections with the portraits and nudes. The prints are really good as well as the installation. I learned about more his history and the story behind many of the iconic images as well as his extensive magazine career which I was not fully aware of. The show is on till August 12th and I highly recommend it.
Brandt wrote in 1948: ” Vicariously, through another person’s eyes, men and women can see the world anew…..There is given to them again a sense of wonder. This should be the photographer’s aim, for this is the purpose that pictures fulfill in the world as it is to-day…..We are most of us too busy, too worried, too intent on proving ourselves right, too obsessed with ideas to stand and stare.” I would say that is even more true in 2013…..
