Pete Seeger RIP 1919-2014

He sang until his voice wore out, what a remarkable life – Pete Seeger is dead at the age of 94. I grew up listening to Pete Seeger courtesy of my brother Robert. Pete was one of his heroes and I loved to hear his songs whether it was on the record player or my brother’s rendition of one of his many great songs. Pete and my brother loved nothing more then to gather people together with song and we sang Seeger songs at many of our family gatherings.

In addition to being a great musician and performer he was an activist at heart and championed so many causes including Riverkeeper whose mission it is is to protect the environmental integrity of the Hudson River because Pete lived on the Hudson River. I last saw him perform with Bruce Springsteen on the televised concert for Obama’s inaugaration in 2009 and it just made me happy to see him there with Bruce, in is hat and lumberjack shirt singing loud and playing that banjo. He made a difference.
