Walter Beirendonck is the maverick of Antwerp fashion. He is the director of the fashion department of The Royal Academy of fine Arts in Antwerp where my nephew Devon is attending school. I was in Antwerp to visit Devon and was lucky to see this retrospective of Walter’s work – the designer I knew the least about from the famous Antwero Six group. The exhibition is amazing, the clothes, the installation, his wall of influences and the amazing video piece by Nick Knight and Showstudio. What an inspiration of riotous color and energy and spirit. I was thrilled to also visit Walter’s store and buy a wonderful poncho to mark the occasion.
